Esperanza Spalding Sued for "Radio Music Society" Boombox
4:38AM Monday
February 25, 2013

Esperanza Spalding is being sued because of the artwork used on her Grammy award-winning album Radio Music Society

On the album, Esperanza is seen sitting on what looks to be an '80's style, oversize boom box.  But, in fact, the apparent radio is a sculpture created by Ryan Humphrey that features the photography of Kevin Ryan attached to a wooden box.

According to Kevin, he requested that Esperanza credit and license his work on her album, but she didn't.  Now, Kevin says he wants to be compensated for Esperanza's use of his images on her merchandise and has filed a $500,000 suit in a Manhattan federal court against the Grammy award winner, the New York Post reports.

While Kevin says, "I love Esperanza, and I love her music, and, actually, I like the image... you wish people would have done their due diligence."

Esperanza's representatives declined to comment to the Post on the lawsuit.

Esperanza just won two Grammys for Radio Music Society earlier this month. The album took home the award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, and the song "City of Roses" won for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s).
